Although you can buy anything at any time, such as swimsuits in the winter or snow shovels in the summer, there are certain things that are best bought during specific months, depending on availability and expected discounts and sales. To help you shop smarter this February, savings experts RetailMeNot analyzed retail data and determined which categories are trending (and selling the most) right now.
Below are the top five things to buy in February, along with the average discount you’ll find on each type of product, from tax software to flowers.

1. Computing and electronics
If you’re looking for a new computer, TV, tablet or laptop and don’t want to wait until November for the Black Friday sales, you can find deals almost as good during President’s Day weekend (and around Super Bowl weekend). The average electronics discount in February is 41%, so you can pick up a new smart TV or sleek laptop for almost half that.
2. Tax Preparation Services
Tax season is upon us, and while you have until April 18 to submit yours, many people are getting a head start on their 2022 taxes this month. According to RetailMeNot, February brings an average of 35% off tax preparation services and software, like H&R Block and TurboTax. Our experts dubbed it the best tax software of the year, thanks to its ease of use.
3. Fragrances and fragrances
Whether you’re looking for a gift for your Valentine or want to treat yourself to something luxuriously scented, fragrances and perfumes will be on average 26% off in February. While there are plenty of places to buy perfume online, some of our favorite picks include Nordstrom, Sephora, and Ulta. Here you’ll find fragrances for men and women in a wide variety of scents, styles, and price points.
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, which means more and more people are looking for the best places to buy flowers online. Before February 14 (and even after), you’ll find many of the best retailers offering discounts on flower delivery, from romantic red roses to more extravagant arrangements. You will save an average of 19%. We at Reviewed like The Bouqs Co., FTD Flowers or Urban Stems for their good quality and customer service.
5. Household items and mattresses
Start spring cleaning early? Looking for a better night’s sleep? You can achieve both of these goals by purchasing household items and mattresses before the end of February. You’ll save an average of 18% on furniture, which is available for all home decor styles at Wayfair, for example, and an average of 14% on mattresses, which our experts recommend buying from popular brands Tuft & Needle or Nectar Sleep. Tip: President’s Day weekend is usually filled with amazing deals on mattresses, so you can browse this site.
