Leading e-commerce companies receive millions of orders from customers across the country during the holiday season. This is because most of the websites offer big discounts on products at this time of year.

But in addition to the big discounts, there is also a risk of late delivery, wrong delivery or downright outrageous deliveries. This particular incident fits well into the latter category.

So far, we have heard cases of e-commerce companies messing up e-item shipments. But recently a man from Wayanad District in Kerala ordered a passport cover from Amazon but received a real passport from another man with the proceeds.

According to a The Minute News article, Mithun Babu placed an order on Amazon for a passport cover on October 30. When he received his package two days later, he was surprised to find a real passport in one of the pockets of the passport cover.

“At first I took it for a dummy passport. However, upon closer inspection, I realized that I had received an original passport, belonging to a native of Thrissur, ”Mithun said.

Since most would react in such a situation, Mithun immediately contacted Amazon customer service and told them about the confusion. But the response he received was astonishing to say the least. The customer service manager told him that the error “will not happen again” and “that they will be careful in the future”. There was no immediate solution to the problem because the executive did not tell Mithun what to do with the original passport that came with the product.

The name on the passport was Muhammed Salih, from Thrissur district in Kerala. So Mithun took it upon himself to find him. He managed to find Salih’s contact number after carefully studying the details mentioned in his passport.

Mithun said the passport cover he ordered was actually purchased by Salih from Amazon earlier. Salih had kept his passport in the pocket but then decided to return it to the company. It stayed inside one of the pockets because he forgot to take it out before returning it.

“It was seller’s mistake on Amazon. They didn’t check the returned product and sent it back repackaging,” Mithun said,
