Pop’s Que and Stew recalls frozen stew products produced without the benefit of inspection
WASHINGTON, May 6, 2022 – Pop’s Que and Stew, an Opelika, Ala. facility, is recalling approximately 12,472 pounds of frozen stew products that were produced without the benefit of federal inspection, the Safety and Security Service announced today. United States Department of Agriculture Food Inspection (FSIS).
Brunswick Stew products were manufactured on various dates from May 2020 through May 2022. The following products are being recalled [view labels]:
- 30 oz. jars containing “Pop’s HOMEMADE BRUNSWICK STEW” with sell-by dates through November 30, 2022.
- 59 oz. plastic zipper bags containing Pop’s Que and Stew Brunswick stew product without any other company or product identifying information on the label.
The recalled products do not bear the USDA inspection mark because Pop’s Que and Stew is not a federally inspected establishment. These items have been shipped to outlets in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee.
The issue was discovered during routine FSIS surveillance activities when it was determined that Brunswick stew products did not bear the USDA inspection mark and were produced in a facility that was not inspected. by the USDA.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse effects due to the consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS is concerned that some products may end up in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are asked not to consume them. These products should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.
FSIS regularly conducts recall effectiveness checks to ensure that recalling companies are notifying their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to ensure that the product is no longer available to consumers.
