Wisconsin Valley Conference, WIAA moves to mobile ticketing for postseason events

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) and Wisconsin Valley Conference will move to mobile ticketing for upcoming postseason events.

The move continues the trend that many schools began at the start of the pandemic of providing mobile tickets. Schools like Wausau West and Merrill have been tinkering with mobile ticketing since the limited-capacity crowds of fall 2020.

“It let us know who was at our events, so we were able to track and monitor in case contact tracing was needed,” said John Miller, Merrill High School’s activities director. “We would have the information to pass the information on to those in the event that we needed to contact the trace.”

Since then, schools have offered cash and electronic ticketing options. In Wausau West, cash is still the most popular option right now.

“More people are still using the crate because that’s what they’re used to,” said Brian Miller, Wausau West’s director of activities and athletics.

However, as people get used to the new system, they start to like e-ticketing.

“From those who have used it, the feedback we have received has been overwhelmingly positive, which is why we have continued with it,” said John Miller.

Mobile ticketing will be the only option for upcoming post-season events in the Valley, including Saturday’s wrestling conference in Marshfield. The two Millers encourage people who are unfamiliar with the system or have questions to contact the school hosting the event they are attending.

All Valley Schools will be using the “Ticket Spiket” app to keep things consistent.

“We know that when we remove the checkout some people will be worried, but I think we can get away with it,” Brian Miller said.

At events in Merrill, Wausau and others, people will be on hand to help those who need help understanding the new ticketing process.

“The goal is never to create frustration or confusion for anyone, but we want it to be an enjoyable experience for the athletes, the community, the spectators and everyone who walks through our doors,” said said John Miller.
